Some of the many enchanting (and sometimes intimidating!) creatures you’ll see here include many varieties of shark, moon jellies, a giant Pacific octopus, and the fierce Queensland Groper. You’ll find fascinating collections of artifacts, photographs, and more, alongside interactive exhibits and displays that showcase everything from the earliest explorations of the “unknown land” to contemporary concerns.
The real highlight, though, is the chance to tour their historical vessel collection. Begin with a replica of the infamous ship of Captain Cook, and then see other ships like the retired Navy Destroyer HMAS Vampire, retired Navy patrol boat HMAS Advance, retired submarine HMAS Onslow, and more.
Getting In: Australian National Maritime Museum tickets are available on The Sydney Pass.

The Carousel at Darling Harbour
Hop aboard one of Australia’s most historic carousels, believed to be the second oldest in the country after the one at the Melbourne Zoo and one of the few in the world remaining from the nineteenth century.
Located right near the Sydney Visitor Centre, this historic carousel was actually built in England in 1892 and brought to Australia in 1894. Today it’s a beautiful and still fully functional carousel that the kids will love. Makes for great photos, too!
